One thing has become quite clear regarding WMBF News local news coverage. The conflict of interest (accepting exceptionally large Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce branded advertising packages), has seriously eroded the community's ability to get unfiltered and fairly produced news articles.
I know right!!! :(
For this, WMBF scores one star.
The residents of Myrtle Beach already have a 24-hour tourism channel on cable, we don't need a local news outlet mirroring the tourism channel.
Lisa Gresci is an amazing person and great interviewer! Thank you for all of your support!!
How can a news agency exist today and not allow for comments on their stories? I called the station and asked and they said because of responses they had turned that feature off. ??ok?? But you have the option to respond to anything anyone says and if something breaks your rules of conduct cut out that comment....so why turn the whole thing off? There's only one reason and that would be because your purpose is to broadcast news that cannot be questioned. Or rather to insure the dialogue is one way. WMBF was called the "national enquirer" of MB when I arrived. I give them credit with their new station manager they have toned down the sensationalism, but their clear ties to the city remain and are reflected in their constant spinning the news stories for the myrtle beach area chamber's agenda at the cost of investigative journalism--as true investigative journalism would counter their very stories. I actually at times wonder how many of their news stories are written in house and how many are dictated from the chamber itself. I told them that when they allow for comments and questions and even challenges to their reporting then I would follow them but as long as they serve to announce propaganda rather than cover the news, then I won't take them seriously. Sad but this is what several million a year from one source does to a station.
WMBF has forgotten that there are local residents that want to be able to rely on local news outlets for all sides of local news.
