Rental was ready and available upon arrival, and car was fairly new, but no Emerald aisle and no ability to select the vehicle I wanted to drive. The agent had processed the rental before I got there using the credit card on my profile, which I usually use a different card once I check out. I use my profile card just to secure the reservation, and then later decide which Card I want to charge the rental to depending on what I want to accomplish (reward points, airline miles, credit limits, etc.). So I have to wait for a credit on my profile card while another charge was made to the card I wanted to use. It was proactive to get the paperwork ready for getting me in and out, but the final billing should have waited until my arrival. Other than that, satisfied with the rental.
I've used many car rental agencies in the past but I use National exclusively now. They have never let me down. Always a clean, reliable car that is ready when I get there. Friendly staff. Competitive prices. Great value.
Check in was pretty quick, and the gentleman at the counter was friendly . He asked if we wanted to upgrade to a convertible and we were happy to be asked, we did!! The car was beautiful! However, it had not been thoroughly cleaned before, there were chicken wing bones under the front seat (we didn't notice this until the next day) and beer bottle caps in the drink holders. We mentioned this to the person we returned the car to, but basically he said what do you expect, we have to turn these cars around fast...?!?!? Really?!?! He could have just apologized and said he would look into it and make me FEEL better even if he wasn't.
I use National for all my rental needs, both business (monthly) and personal ( a couple times a year), so I know this is not the usual service that I receive. It won't deter me from using them again.
Easy, with a new clean car. Agent was a very nice Gentleman and was already prepared for me to arrive. Return was just as easy, very pleased.
Service was good, car was great. Major frustration with the cost though as I was charged $80 more than the reservation price after a lot of hassle at the rental counter. Went to pick up my car and was told that because it was a one-way rental (drop-off location different than pick-up) I would have to pay a per mileage fee in addition to the rental cost. This would have been $300+ more dollars. This was never communicated during the reservation process! We spent some time trying to figure out alternate options before the agent was able to change the car class to a lower class which avoided the per mileage fee, but still bumped up the cost about $80...so frustrating to deal with this at the start of a vacation!
