We're still furious, though more shocked about how Lakewood treated us. I wrote twice to the owners...no reply of any type has ever come. We were truly ripped off!
We once loved staying here. Now I would warn anyone considering it, to think twice, and as possible...ask friends and or family who've recently stayed here how much the campground has gone done. Since we were there for four months after the October 2015 flooding, I can attest no efforts to clean up, or repair things took place. With Matthew the following year, it just got worse.
Very Great Place to Relax & Camp with
The park smelled awful, much like sewage, and while it somewhat dissipated as the temps dropped, it never truly improved because the grounds were constantly soaked (even without rain) and we could not walk our dog without washing his "undercarriage" afterwards...every time. It was a real challenge just to find a place not muddy for him to do his business.
We stayed in what I pray is the worst possible villa from November 2015 through early February 2016, and to be very honest, we stayed ONLY because they allowed us to park our RV in overflow free. Still, we spent over $100 in cleaning supplies and three of us worked for a solid week (literally) trying to clean at least the areas we had no choice but use. They told us they had nothing else with a washer & dryer. *Imagine our dismay when the owners of the one directly beside us came in one week before we left and showed us their very clean villa with a W/D - that they had been told simply couldn't be rented for much of the time we were there. We would have gladly rented it. In our villa, the bedrooms, bathroom (so disgusting even after we scrubbed, we requested they come look and clean (they refused). This villa had the closed in sunroom, but it was to disgusting to use. Not one blind worked, or was without dust & grime. The stove, microwave and small appliances were so filthy that we went and purchased a large toaster oven, microwave and thankfully used things like a coffee pot, etc from our RV. Those supplied were covered in mold. We even went out and purchased covers for the one sofa we three used. We stayed, hopeful each day we would find the ideal house and knew our closing would occur quickly.
To be frank, the oldest daughter of the original owners now runs this campground (Shannon Perry) and she's either completely unaware of the numerous problems, or worse unconcerned. We ask that she come and at least take a look at the "villa" we were assigned, but never once did she respond. We were told constantly she was unavailable, and they could only give her a message. All they could do otherwise was possibly change us to another villa at the end of a month, but the one we were in was "one of the better ones" and no other was available with W/Dryer.
We learned after our stay the lady that insisted this was one of her best units - was close to the elderly lady that owned the unit we were assigned...and because her husband had recently passed away, this
Great Family Campground.
I might have said... surely things improved in the months that followed, though we visited friends there on two occasions, (after warning both to stay elsewhere) and in both cases these folks (like us) had camped here for 20+ years -- so they were convinced we merely had a bad experience. One couple stayed only two of the 15 days they had reserved before insisting on a refund due to numerous problems they had never experienced here. The other couple had no choice but stay since they came during a holiday weekend and elsewhere was booked solid. While these folks had stayed here for years too, they now warn others (as we do) to avoid this campground entirely. I have autoimmune diseases (i.e., Addison's, Shy Draggers) and each time I go there I end up quite ill. We had no idea why I was so sick during our stay there -- until visiting friends, and on both occasions - I got sick; the last time I was admitted to the hospital for a respiratory illness.
employee felt this owner (who wouldn't make any repairs) needed the money more than others.
