This is THE ABSOLUTE WORST MEDICAL PRACTICE!
I had numerous phone convos. With billing explaining the situation but continued to get bills for the cancellation fee, threatening to send me to collections.
UPDATE: it's been well over the 24 hours and I have not heard from this office. I suppose I will need to either have my Doctor request the information or go see these people in person
If you want your appointment to fit your schedule don't go here. I've scheduled multiple appointments over the phone and in person only to have them changed when I get home. The office manager is no help in correcting the situation. The only way to fix it is to not be a patient at this office. There is a pattern of incompetence that won't be ignored.
I saw Megan , the Nurse Practitioner, the first 2 visits and felt comfortable with her. (I referred my daughter to her also). On my Visit in May she told me to schedule with Dr. Becker for my next visit since my health situation is complicated. i was also told to have a sleep study done at Coastal Sleep Lab. She felt I might have sleep apnea.i told her Ive had 3 sleep studies and dont have sleep apnea,just Narcolepsy and severe random limb movement. I have gained weight though so I agreed to have the test to check for apnea again. The sleep lab called and told me they had a cancellation on Sat. If I could come. ( this was on Thurs). I explained that I had nocash for a copay. I was told I could be billed for the $100 co-pay.i said I would call my insurance company to find outwhat my coverage would be. I was told by insurance that Icould have an "in-home" study with no co-pay, but the lab would be a $100 co-pay.many calls later I was told I had to have study at lab because of my diagnosis of narcolepsy. I felt pressured to take the open appt. the next night and just get billed for the co-pay. The following morning I called the sleep lab to tell them I couldnt justify rushing into this test when I have no money for the co-pay. Noone answered the phone, I was told to leave a message. I did so explaining why I was not going to have the study done that night. 2 weeks later I got a bil for $250 for cancelling the study! (I learned that the sleep lab is owned by one of the Carolina Health physicians!).
I called my sleep Dr. In Charleston & will travel 2 hrs. To get COMPETENT care. WOW
I asked if Megan, the nurse, or Dr. Becker could please call me. I never received a call back even after leaving numerous messages about the situation. I ran out of medicine and could not get anyone to return a phone call. I got extremely ill with chest tightness and severe headache. My blood pressure rose to 174/114. Without my Adderal I sleep almost non-stop and am very lethargic and "foggy" when I can stay awake. I called back numerous times and still no return calls. I finally went to the office and was told the Dr. Wasnt in. I asked the nurse to check my B/p and it was 156/104. I told her how bad I had been feeling but got no further advice or earlier appt. with a Dr. I was told a few times that Dr. Becker wasnt available and does not have another Dr. cover him! They suggested I go to the ER if I needed to see a Dr, sooner! Dr. Becker is out of town with noone covering his pts. For a few weeks!!
Hit or miss. I have been going here several years. The main problems I have with them are inconsistency in their level of care and professionalism. Sometimes they will bend over backwards to take care of you. Other times they act like you are inconveniencing them for being there or asking them to do their jobs. Very hard to get referrals, appointments, (other than the lab) and called back for test results. They are OK for minor stuff or once a year check-ups. But if you have a chronic condition that needs a lot of care, you may want to look elsewhere.
My husband and I were patients here several years ago. I called today because I needed some dates for some tests that were performed on both of us. I was transferred to someone that was extremely rude to me. All I said was "I am guessing this is Medical Records" and I received a huge sigh. When I started to explain what I needed the employee cut me off and said " I have to call you back and I have 24 hours to do it" . My family Doctor (Dr. McIver) is the one who told me to call this office. He used to be affiliated with them. I'm so glad he no longer is. We shall see how long it takes for them to call me back and if I get the information I need.
Been going there since 2006! Have had good treatment from the doctors, nurses since then!
. After moving from Charleston about a year ago I needed to get established with a sleep specialist here in Myrtle Beach. I have Narcolepsy along with other chronic illnesses and take a number of medications. It is important for me to have a Dr. Who will look at the "whole picture",not just the illness they treat.
I had an appt. scheduled with Dr. Becker for July 15, but had to go out of town for a family situation and wouldnt be back until the 16th. I went to the office before leaving town on June 28th and told them I needed to reschedule for After July 17th. They told me that they didnt have any appts. In July and he hadnt given them his August schedule yet, they would call me as soon as they got it to schedule my appt. for early Aug. I agreed but said I only had enough medicine to get by until early August so I needed to see him in early August. They again said they would contact me as soon as the August schedule was available.
When I returned home on July 16th I realized I had not received a call to schedule my appt. I called the next morning and was offered the first appt. they had available ON SEPT. 6th!!!! I explained that I would run out of medicine in early August and was promised they would call to schedule me for early August but never did. They told me the August schedule "filled up very quickly".
